The Easy Tips for Capsicum Watering.
Irrigation Regime after Transplanting of Indoor Capsicum.
IRRIGATION REGIME FOR HEAVY/MEDIUM SOIL.
1st interval irrigation is done 6 weeks
from stressing plants. Irrigation is always recommended to be done in the
morning hours. This regime is based on an 8m*24m or 9m *30m model greenhouse.
After transplanting on day 7, a farmer is advised to
irrigate alternating from one day on
and two days off consecutively until
day 47.
2nd interval irrigation regime is done 6
weeks after stressing the plants till uprooting. Irrigation is done early in
the morning every day for approximately 2 hours.
This regime starts from Day 48 alternating from DAY
ON to DAY OFF until day 96
IRRIGATION
REGIME FOR SANDY/LIGHT SOIL.
1st and 2nd interval
irrigation regime is done 6 weeks after thirsting the plants (6 weeks after
transplanting) till uprooting. Irrigation should be done early in the morning
and at noon hours respectively (2 hours twice a day).
What to take into consideration?😕
Too
much watering.
Indoor capsicums are sensitive to too much water.
Too much water encourages dumping off diseases, other bacterial diseases, and
not forgetting stunted growth. Allowing capsicums plants to be a bit thirsty is
always good for the best performance growth rate and also it allows capsicum roots
to develop well and grow deeper into the soil hence maximum plant support is
attained.
The yellow and droopy leaves are signs of
overwatering usually accompanied by poor soil drainage.
Too
little water.
The too little watering is seen when the capsicums
leaves are dark green, droopy leaves, sometimes shading of leaves, and flower
abortions. This is normally seen during the mid-day. This should not be
confused with high temperatures of the greenhouse which also causes flower
abortions and droopy leaves. It is advisable to always check water content 5cms
deep into the soil. The soil should be damp.
A farmer is advised to always irrigate the capsicum
plants by increasing the frequency or amount of soil water content.
