YELLOW AND RED CAPSICUM GUIDE PROCEDURE
Capsicum( commonly known as pili pili hoho in swahili language) is a tender, warm season crop.Capsicums do well in hot and warm conditions. There are two ways to farm capsicum: indoor( green houses/class houses) and through outdoor (field grown). yellow and red capsicums are alternatively grown in green houses in order to maximize output quality and quantity produce.
Yellow varieties include; Golden sun F1, Ilanga F1, Admiral F1 etc
Red varieties include include; Grandisimo F1, commandant etc
capsicums take 35-45 days in the nursery depending on how a farmer water and feeds before transplanting. with a farming management practices, it takes 75 days to mature after transplanting.
PROCEDURE FOR PREPARING SEEDBED BEFORE TRANSPLANTING.
A farmer is advised to use a well decomposed manure in order to control poor seedling establishment, contamination of soil with pathogens and foliage burning.
- Dig the soil well to a depth of two feet. Repeat two times to ensure the soil is turn well to a fine texture.
- Spread well decomposed manure over the bed and mix well.
- Raised and shaped beds to the required measurement of 1 meter a part.
- Level the bed.
- Set up the drip lines.
